My approach in therapy

Sometimes we are dealt a big blow, we suffer a series of disappointments in life, or we face a difficult transition. In these hard places, it’s tough slogging through it alone. The act of remaining alone worsens anxious, depressed, or distracted reactions.

Two heads really are better than one! My approach provides a safe, reflective relationship to understand the things that really matter, and to encourage an emerging alive and sturdy self. I’m very interested in helping a person move from a state of anxiety or despair to confidence, vitality and calm.

Both Dr. Fosha’s Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Dr. Gendlin's Focusing harness the "felt sense" within, bringing about needed experiences with new perspectives that change how we see ourselves and others, and that open new possibilities. There is often the recognition of "Oh this is right!" that help usher in what has been longed for but not had.

These approaches lean on our ability to heal from harm under the right conditions (e.g., feeling safe and trusting someone to help), promotes a positive attachment in the therapy relationship and values your experiences in a way that can be transforming.  I find it to be a wonderful melding of the mind, body, and soul, of thoughts and feelings, and of the practical with the meaningful.

I have found that the best therapy happens in an environment where you feel safe to express whatever is true for you. With this in mind, I am completely committed to confidentiality, to protecting your stories and experiences.
